Associate Degree Nursing (A45110)
Associate in Applied Science Degree
The Associate Degree Nursing Program is approved by the North Carolina State Board of Nursing. Graduates of this program are eligible to apply to take the National Council Licensing Examination (NCLEX-RN), which is the national licensing exam for registered nurses. Upon completion of this program, the graduate nurse will demonstrate professional nursing behaviors incorporating personal responsibility and accountability for continued competence, communicate and collaborate effectively with individuals, families, and members of the healthcare team to achieve positive individual and organizational outcomes, provide holistic assessments of individuals and record and report the results of these assessments, formulate evidence-based clinical judgments and management decisions, provide safe and effective nursing care across the lifespan to culturally diverse individuals and families incorporating documented best practices, and develop a teaching plan for individuals and/or the nursing team. Throughout the curriculum students acquire knowledge, skills, and strategies necessary for the entry level registered nurse to practice in a dynamic environment and to meet healthcare needs of individuals and families.
There are special admission procedures for the Associate Degree Nursing program including, but not limited to, completing a high school or college level chemistry and biology course with a grade of 'C' or better, and verification of listing on the North Carolina Nurse Aide Registry.
Students may be required to take developmental courses in Math and/or English as a result of high school GPA or pre-enrollment placement tests. Therefore, the student may need more than the minimum number of semester hours listed for graduation. Consult a program advisor for more information.
