MAC 112 - Machining Technology II

2 class, 12 lab, 6 credits

Prerequisite: MAC 141

This course provides additional instruction and practice in the use of precision measuring tools, lathes, milling machines, and grinders. Emphasis is placed on setup and operation of machine tools including the selection and use of work holding devices, speeds, feeds, cutting tools, and coolants. Upon completion, students should be able to perform basic procedures on precision grinders and advanced operations of measuring, layout, drilling, sawing, turning, and milling. MAC 113 - Machining Technology III

2 class, 12 lab, 6 credits

Prerequisite: MAC 112

This course provides an introduction to advanced and special machining operations. Emphasis is placed on working to specified tolerances with special and advanced setups. Upon completion, students should be able to produce a part to specifications. (Offered Summer semester)

MAC 114 - Introduction to Metrology

2 class, 0 lab, 2 credits

This course introduces the care and use of precision measuring instruments. Emphasis is placed on the inspection of machine parts and the use of a wide variety of measuring instruments. Upon completion, students should be able to demonstrate the correct use of measuring instruments. (Offered Fall semester)

MAC 118 - Machine Shop Basic

1 class, 3 lab, 2 credits

This course will introduce the fundamentals of measuring tools, tolerances and the basic set-up and operations of drill presses, lathes, and milling machines. Emphasis is placed on manufacturing standards and procedures used in welding, automotive, and engineering environments. Upon completion, students should be able to use measuring tools, perform basic machine operations, and apply manufacturing standards. (Demand dependent)

MAC 121 - Intro to CNC

2 class, 0 lab, 2 credits

This course introduces the concepts and capabilities of computer numerical control machine tools. Topics include setup, operation, and basic applications. Upon completion, students should be able to explain operator safety, machine protection, data input, program preparation, and program storage. (Offered Fall semester)

MAC 122 - CNC Turning

1 class, 3 lab, 2 credits

Prerequisites: MAC 121

This course introduces the programming, setup, and operation of CNC turning centers. Topics include programming formats, control functions, program editing, part production, and inspection. Upon completion, students should be able to manufacture simple parts using CNC turning centers. A course fee is required. (Offered Spring semester)

MAC 124 - CNC Milling

1 class, 3 lab, 2 credits

Prerequisites: MAC 121

This course introduces the manual programming, setup, and operation of CNC machining centers. Topics include programming formats, control functions, program editing, part production, and inspection. Upon completion, students should be able to manufacture simple parts using CNC machining centers. A course fee is required. (Offered Spring semester)

MAC 141 - Machining Applications I

2 class, 6 lab, 4 credits

This course provides an introduction to a variety of material-working processes that are common to the machining industry. Topics include safety, process-specific machining equipment, measurement devices, set-up and layout instruments, and common shop practices. Upon completion, students should be able to safely demonstrate basic machining operations, accurately measure components, and effectively use layout instruments. A course fee is required. MAC 141A  - Machining Appl I Lab

0 class, 6 lab, 2 credits

MAC 151 - Machining Calculations

1 class, 2 lab, 2 credits

Recommended Prerequisites: MAT 110

This course introduces basic calculations as they relate to machining occupations. Emphasis is placed on basic calculations and their applications in the machine shop. Upon completion, students should be able to perform basic shop calculations. (Offered Spring semester)

MAC 160 - Coordinate Measuring Mach

2 class, 2 lab, 3 credits

This course introduces methods in the setup and operation of coordinate measuring machines. Emphasis is placed on the programming of coordinate measuring machines and the measurement of complex parts. Upon completion, students should be able to demonstrate skills in programming, operation, and setup of coordinate measuring machines. (Demand dependent)

MAC 171 - Measure/Material & Safety

0 class, 2 lab, 1 credit

This course introduces precision measuring instruments, process control and adjustment, inspection, material handling, and workplace safety. Topics include properly identifying and handling various measurement instruments and materials, process control, adjustment and improvement, personal protective equipment (PPE), and OSHA safety regulations. Upon completion, students should be able to safely demonstrate effective measurement techniques, identify and handle various materials, and explain safe industry practices. (Offered Fall semester)

MAC 222 - Advanced CNC Turning

1 class, 3 lab, 2 credits

Prerequisite: MAC 122

This course covers advanced methods in setup and operation of CNC turning centers. Emphasis is placed on programming and production of complex parts. Upon completion, students should be able to demonstrate skills in programming, operations, and setup of CNC turning centers. A course fee is required. (Offered Fall semester)

MAC 224 - Advanced CNC Milling

MAC 241 - Jigs & Fixtures I

2 class, 6 lab, 4 credits

Prerequisite: MAC 113

This course introduces the application and use of jigs and fixtures. Emphasis is placed on design and manufacture of simple jigs and fixtures. Upon completion, students should be able to design and build simple jigs and fixtures. (Offered Spring semester)

MAC 243 - Die Making I

2 class, 6 lab, 4 credits

Prerequisite: MAC 113

This course introduces the principles and applications of die-making. Topics include types, construction, and application of dies. Upon completion, students should be able to design and build simple dies. (Offered Spring semester)

MAC 245 - Mold Construction I

2 class, 6 lab, 4 credits

Prerequisite: MAC 113

This course introduces the principles of mold making. Topics include types, construction, and application of molds. Upon completion, students should be able to design and build simple molds. (Offered Fall semester)

MAC 248 - Production Procedures

1 class, 2 lab, 2 credits

This course covers product planning and control and scheduling and routing of operations. Topics include cost-effective production methods, dimensional and statistical quality control, and the tooling and machines required for production. Upon completion, students should be able to plan, set up, and produce cost-effective quality machined parts. A course fee is required. (Demand dependent)
